What matters most

How you come across on camera and how clean your digitals are. Height counts for less here than anywhere else on the agency boards.

01Requirements

What agencies and rules actually say

  1. 01
Premier notes that commercial work runs across "a much wider range of heights, ages, and looks" than editorial.[1]
  2. 02
Heffner Management welcomes "ALL sizes and gender expressions" and accepts phone photos.[5]
  3. 03
The Campbell Agency runs a Classic board next to its Mainboard, Curve, Runway, New Faces and Influencers boards.[4]
  4. 04
Market guides (secondary source) describe Los Angeles as commercial and lifestyle, Chicago as commercial, catalog and e-commerce, and Atlanta and Dallas as commercial markets.[31]
  5. 05
In our rubric, on-camera presence and digitals quality carry a quarter of the commercial score each; height carries a fifth.[63]

04Digitals

What to send

  • Kim Dawson asks for four digitals (portrait, full length, smiling, profile). Phone photos are fine in soft natural light, with "no filters, makeup, hats, or sunglasses".[3]
  • Heffner wants a headshot, full body, ¾ and side profile: no filters or retouching, a neutral background, natural light, "No makeup, natural hair".[5]
  • Ford asks for a "clean face with absolutely no makeup", hair pulled back and a form-fitting outfit.[12]
  • The Campbell Agency asks for a smiling headshot, a non-smiling headshot, a ¾ shot and a full body shot, with minimal makeup.[4]

05Questions

Asked, answered.

Can I do commercial modeling if I'm short?
Commercial boards don't publish a height floor the way runway boards do, and Premier describes commercial as a much wider range of heights. Our rubric's commercial height range for women starts rising at 4'11" and is fully in range from 5'3".
Do I need professional photos?
No. Agencies ask for plain digitals, and Heffner and Kim Dawson say phone photos are fine. Our digitals kit is free.
