What agencies and rules actually say

    The US women's standard fit model is a size 4 at 5'4"–5'9", with bust 34", waist 26" and hips 37" (secondary source).[16]
  2. 02
    There are five common women's fit types: junior, missy, contemporary, plus and petite.[16]
  3. 03
    A fit model has to match the client's size block and stay consistent, because garments are fitted to that body.[16]
  4. 04
    Men's samples typically run 40R, about 38–40" chest and 30–32" waist (secondary source, unverified as a fit standard).[32]

Worth knowing

Fit-model fit needs tape measurements. Without bust, waist and hips we don't score it at all, and numbers from memory carry much less confidence than numbers measured today.[63]

What to send

  • Kim Dawson asks for four digitals (portrait, full length, smiling, profile). Phone photos are fine in soft natural light, with "no filters, makeup, hats, or sunglasses".[3]
  • Heffner wants a headshot, full body, ¾ and side profile: no filters or retouching, a neutral background, natural light, "No makeup, natural hair".[5]
  • Ford asks for a "clean face with absolutely no makeup", hair pulled back and a form-fitting outfit.[12]
  • The Campbell Agency asks for a smiling headshot, a non-smiling headshot, a ¾ shot and a full body shot, with minimal makeup.[4]
